Vera Ruth Freeman

Vera Ruth Freeman, 94, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 17, 2022. She was born to Hugo and Erna Melchert on Dec. 3, 1927, and grew up in Acampo.

Vera attended Galt High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Charles A. Freeman, better known as Pudge. Vera and Pudge were married on August 4, 1946, a marriage that lasted almost 70 years until Pudge preceded her in death.

During their marriage, they built a loving home and ranch in Acampo, where they raised two daughters, Janie Freeman Ice and Marie Freeman Mitchell. Vera loved baking, canning and pickling. She was known for her wonderful pies. Vera was very active at Shepherd of the Valley church in Galt where she was the organist for many years.

Loved and missed by all, Vera is survived by her daughters, Marie (Larry) Mitchell and Janie Ice; grandchildren, Gail (Bill) Vernon, Brian Ice, Kent (Salice) Johnson, Lisa (Andy) Fair, and Lori Woodard; great grandchildren, Katie Vernon and William Vernon, Ashlyn, Riley and Camden Fair, Laine and Harlan Woodard; and one great, great grandson, Lukas.
