Velma Beth Leal,98, of Galt, California passed away on February 02, 2023.


She was born on November 15, 1924, to Harold L. Johnston and Edith A. Nielsen Johnston in Moroni, Utah.
Beth was a long-time resident of Galt. Beth and her husband, Harold E. Leal (a Pearl Harbor Survivor),
ran a residential care home for 20 years in Herald, CA. Beth was an excellent cook, which her family and
residents so enjoyed, especially on holidays and birthdays.
Beth learned to golf from her husband and quickly came to love the game. They often enjoyed golfing
together at Dry Creek Golf Course. She soon became part of a group of women friends that golfed
together on a regular basis.
Beth married Harold E. Leal on July 15,1946. They had been married for 69 years, just three and half
months shy of their 70th wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her day-old son Jack, her parents Harold L. Johnston and Edith A. Nielsen
Johnston, sister Norma Johnston Wojiechowski, brothers Miles Johnston and Bryce Johnston, son
Christopher A Leal and his wife Sherri Deems Leal and her husband Harold E. Leal.
Beth’s greatest love was her Family, she was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, wife, mother,
grandmother. great grandmother, great great grandmother, and friend. She had a large close-knit family
that loved her very much and we will miss her dearly and deeply.
Surviving her are her children: Madeline K. Leal Holden; Stephen R. (Diane) Leal of Valley Springs;
Anthony L. Leal of Galt; 10 grandchildren: Michelle, Jason (Donna), Priscilla , Melissa, Christopher,
Michael, Matthew, Cassie (Andrew), Amanda, David; 10 great grandchildren: Alexis, Hector, ”Lencho”,
Gabriela, Sergio, Trenton “T”, Kaytline, Dylan, Devin, Imilano, Hunter, 2 great- great- grandchildren:
Madden-Malik Lorenzo and Khalyla Theodore; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.


An Evening of Remembrance will be on March 02,2023 from 3-7 pm at Ben Salas Funeral Home 149 4 th
Street Galt, CA 95632


A Funeral Service will be held on March 03, 2023 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints at 972 Vintage Oak Avenue, Galt, CA 95632
