Maria R. Pimentel, of Stockton, CA, passed away suddenly on November 25, 2021 at the age of 69. Her loss is unexpected and we are shocked and deeply saddened. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Those who knew Maria well called her “Chayo.” Chayo was born on October 7, 1952 in Stockton, California. She was the second of eight children of Francisco and Adela (Lopez) Flores. She attended Franklin High School, and after graduation Chayo went on to study at CSU, Stanislaus.
In 1974, Chayo met and married the love of her life, Pedro “Pete” Pimentel, and they went on to have a beautiful family. Chayo and Pete also fostered many children throughout the years, opening their home and hearts to those less fortunate.
Chayo worked in education, as a Special Education Paraprofessional, for over 30 years. She was dedicated and helped many children throughout her career.
The most important part of Chayo’s life was her family. She was a beloved mother, Nana, sister, aunt and cousin. Chayo was, without a doubt, the heart of our family. She was incredibly nurturing and kind hearted, always taking care of anyone in need. Her home was the gathering place for family, loved ones and friends. She kept our traditions alive through her delicious cooking. Everyone had a favorite dish, whether it was her “poor man tacos,” tamales, salsa or pozole. She never let you leave without packing your “to go bag.” Chayo was a wonderful person that touched many lives, and it is difficult to express the great loss we all feel. Thank you for loving us, Chayo.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro “Pete” Pimentel, her parents, Adela and Francisco, her brothers Jose and Francisco Jr. and her sister Martha.
Chayo is survived by her son, Pedro Pimentel, Jr. (Susana), daughter Veronica Gallego (Daniel), daughter Andrea Leon (Michael), daughter Marisol Torres (Roberto), daughter Maria Flores, 14 grandchildren and her siblings, Maria Cholula, Tomas Flores, Miguel Flores and Lupe Flores.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure.”
