Lawrence Leo McElroy, more affectionally known as Larry by friends and family, passed away
peacefully on August 7, 2024 with family by his side. Larry was born on May 13, 1947 in
Thomaston, Georgia to Oscar and Gladys McElroy and was the youngest of five siblings: Joyce,
Lamar, Kenneth and James. Larry enlisted and served in the Navy before transferring to the
Naval Reserves. He was the recipient of a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service
Medal, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Larry went on to serve in the Naval Fire
Department, ultimately reaching the position of Naval Fire Chief. After retirement from the
military, he continued to remain in the workforce and held positions as a Car Sales Manager and
Caregiver. He was a lover of Atlanta Braves baseball, hunting, and fishing. Larry was a man
who was always willing to lend a helping hand, crack a joke or two, and held a firm belief in
God. To those who knew and loved him, he leaves an indelible impression on our hearts and
minds that will never be forgotten.
Survived By:
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Leticia, their daughter Christina and his
stepdaughters Lorelei, her husband Scott and their four children Sean, Darien, Brandon, and
Aiden; Freidaleth (Charity) and her two children Nathan and Bethany. He is also survived by his
former wife Laquina and their three children: Kenneth, his wife Melinda and their five children
Ashleigh, Josh, Courtney, McKenzie, and Kaylee; Stacy and her two children Devon and
Athena; and Michael, his wife Carin and their four children Anthony, Ashley, Michael Jr., and
Raegan. Larry also leaves behind his sister Joyce and brother James and six great-
grandchildren.
