Ida Ortiz (Jan 28, 1935 – May 24, 2026)

Ida Marie Bettencourt Ortiz, a long-time resident of Galt Ca., left us to be with
the Lord on Sunday, May 24th, 2026 at the age of ninety-one.
She was born to the late Frank and Rita Bettencourt on January 28th, 1935 in
Woodland, CA. She was the youngest and last remaining of five siblings - Frank Jr.,
Manuel, Lucille, Alice, and Dee. On May 6, 1956, she married Leonard Ortiz, who
proceeded her with his passing in 2010. She is survived by her children Lenny,
Frank (Scottie), Alyce, Linda (Betty), Merry Gaskill, eight grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Ida graduated from Woodland High School in 1952. She spent many of her
younger years modeling. She also participated in several pageants in Yolo
County and she often shared fond memories of the many Portuguese festivals of
which she attended and participated.
In the 1960’s Ida, Leonard and family lived in West Sacramento. They were
members of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where Ida was a devoted church
organist. In 1972, the family moved to Galt due to Leonard’s job change. Ida and
Leonard remained there for the rest of their lives. For over four decades, Ida was
a devoted organist and teacher of catechism at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church
in Galt.
A mass honoring Ida will be celebrated at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 950
S. Lincoln Way, Galt on Thursday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. For those who wish to
mingle afterwards, a 2-hour reception following mass will be held at the Valley
Oaks Grange Hall (5 th Street and D Street). Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
