Francis D. Jacobson

Francis D. Jacobson, age 93, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Francis was born December 27, 1932, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the first born son of Francis and Aleda Jacobson. As a child he moved with his family to Galt, California. He grew up there attending local schools, and working with his father as a stucco mason.

In 1953, Francis was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served in the Korean War until 1955, when he entered the reserves. He remained a lifelong member of the VFW. He represented them in many local parades, and wore his VFW jacket and hat with honor.

In 1958, Francis married the love of his life, Dolores Dughi. Together they established their home in Galt, where Francis resided until recently. Francis owned his own welding business. He spent many years working on the local dairies welding fencing and gates. He often incorporated his own unique designs for the gates to prevent the livestock from escaping.

Francis was deeply dedicated to his community and history. He and Dolores were longtime members of the Galt Area Historical Society. Francis volunteered countless hours helping restore the Rae House Museum and the McFarland Living History Ranch.

He was always ready to help his family and neighbors. Francis had a soft spot for animals and took in many stray dogs and cats over the years. In his spare time he could be found in his shop tackling woodworking projects with his assortment of tools.

Francis had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face. He was a true prankster. When you saw a certain twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin, you knew he was up to something. His siblings will fondly remember Francis as their big brother who was always there for them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Francis is survived by his brother Ronald (Judy) Jacobson, sister Janet (Tony) Williams, and brother Jim Jacobson, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; his infant son, Galen; his parents, Francis and Aleda; and his sister, Carol.

The memorial service will take place at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church located at 604 E Street in Galt on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 10:00am.
