Bernardino Manuel Matos

Bernardino Manuel Matos, 75, of Acampo passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 28, 2022. Bernardino was born on July 30, 1946 in San Jorge, Azores to Manuel and Ilda Matos. In 1968, Bernardino married Maria de Jesus and a short time later, they left the Azores for a new life in California. 
Bernard, as most called him, was a dairyman for over 40 years in Galt and Acampo. Together with his brother Willie, they established Matos Bros Dairy, retiring from the business in 2020. Hard working, humble and kind are just a few words to describe Bernard. He deeply loved his family…we will miss him immensely and he will forever be in our hearts.
Bernardino is survived by his beloved wife of almost 54 years, Maria; sister, Helena Nascimento (Augusto); brother, Willie de Matos (Stephanie); three children, Dilia Gonzales (Brian), Nelcino Matos (Rosemary) and Lisa Vallerga (Ryan); three beautiful grandchildren, Isabella, Max and Lucy, and a grandson due in May; as well as nieces and nephews and extended family. 
Bernardino was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Ilda.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 5 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Ben Salas Funeral Home in Galt. 
A rosary and mass will be held on Friday, May 6, 10:30 a.m. at St. Christopher’s  Catholic Church in Galt, followed by a Christian burial at Galt Cemetery. 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bernardino to American Cancer Society.
