Alvin J. Henry was born on May 15, 1942, in the mountains near the province of Pangasinan, Philippines. His father Joseph (mother Adela) & other family members were in the American Guerrillas and they were running from the Japanese during World War II.
He passed away on January 5, 2022 in San Francisco, Calif., but lived in Galt for 9 years. Previously, he lived in Bend, OR, San Bruno, CA., and the Philippines.
Alvin went to Capuchino High School, Class of 1962 in San Bruno, CA. and also was in the Marine reserves with an honorable discharge in 1969 for 6 years as a Sharpshooter.
Alvin worked as a Butcher for 23 years at Armour & Co., So. San Francisco, CA. processing ham and bacon for grocery stores. His future career led him to work in construction for 15 years as a Hod Carrier; fireproofing steel beams for high rises and other construction sites. This was through the Hod Carriers Union Local 36/106, Oakland, CA
He enjoyed playing football and track racing in school, lifting weights, fishing, hunting, bowling, Arthur Murray ballroom dancing, working on his 1956 Chevy and 1962 Corvette vehicles as a mechanic, cooking, country and classical music. Most of all he loved his gardening on his 3 acres in Galt with over 48 fruit trees and two vegetable gardens.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 50 years Rose Henry and sons Rufino, Carl (deceased) sister Diane, brothers Walter, James (deceased) grandchildren Melina, Sebastian.
Viewing will be held at Ben Sales Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 27 between 2 - 5P.M.; and Mass on Friday, Jan. 28 at 11A.M. at St. Christopher’s Church in Galt.
Burial will be at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA.
